The Pre-Primary School
<< Previous: The Garden Project

The children of this rural area have little or no opportunity to prepare themselves for formal education. This might be one of the factors why so many pupils fail to pass grade ten (60%). A major problem for many children is that they are taught in English from grade 4 onwards.
We believe education is the key to future development, so we had the idea of starting a pre-primary school to train the children in the English language and to prepare them for school.
Our first pre-primary school was opened on March 17th 2008. The children learn happily and get a lunch every day before they go home. We are proud that we were able to create four jobs for the teachers, who are paid by a generous donor.
A second pre-primary will be launched on the Mayana premises. After we have finished the buildings, we would like to start as soon as possible with the teaching. These two are the only pre-primary schools in the whole area of about 3000 people.
