Scholarships For Secondary School Students
<< Previous: The Villages
We are supporting those children who achieve the best results of their year in the last year of primary school by funding their secondary school fees in town. We select the best students in the area; sometimes as many as three in the same year.
The average cost for a school year is 3500 N$ per child, depending on the grade. The books for the higher grades are very expensive which raises the cost considerably.
Two of our former students are now at university which shows that we have chosen students with enormous potential!
Paulus has received a scholarship for a university in Russia and is studying engineering.
Simon studies medicine, currently he is at the University of Namibia in Windhoek, but he has received a scholarship for a university in the Czech Republic and is also busy applying for a scholarship in South Africa, which would be preferable.
We are depending on the students to work hard to receive their own scholarships since we don’t have the means to pay for their university fees on a permanent basis. Our budget only allows for the student’s support over the first two semesters, especially if we have several students in universities at the same time.
Each month, we provide our students with a set of toiletries. Furthermore, they receive a “pocket money” of 50 N$ to buy additional pens, exercise books or some small things for themselves.
We are trying to meet up with the children once a month.
