How To Help

Community Trails

Community Trails is a project that offers many activities in the Mayana area that help getting to know the people and their lifes a little better, and the proceeds from the small amount of money that is being paid for any of the activities go straight to the people of the region.

There are guided walks through different villages/kraals in the area where you get in touch with the local population and are free to ask any questions that you might have.

We have also included horseback rides to the kraals to our program.

You can visit one of the schools and participate in a classroom lesson, help with handing out the food, and interact with the children.

There is always the opportunity to visit a church service in one of the Mayana area churches.
So when you plan a trip to the Caprivi Strip or know anybody who does, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at N’Kwazi Lodge.

Voluntary Work

If you are good at sports, needlework, a foreign language, maths, or sciences, and you have some time on your hands, you are most welcome to come to Namibia and participate in the Mayana Mpora projects. The people of the region would much appreciate any of your capabilities that you would be willing to share with them.

A good period of time to get an insight and get acquainted with people would be 3 months.

You will have to pay for your own flight into Windhoek and for the transfer to Rundu by Intercape bus.

You will be given free lodging and food and will only need some pocket money for drinks. Anybody over the age of 18 is most welcome and will be given a warm reception!

Donations

In December 2007, we hosted a Christmas party for about 800 children of the Mayana region who have never celebrated Christmas or received a Christmas gift before.

Obviously, throwing such a huge party and organising and wrapping 800 gifts is a massive task, and we have been collecting Christmas presents for the children as well as Christmas tree decorations for a long time.

Next year, we will try to be even more authentic, and reach out to even more children.
Any donations of toys, Christmas decorations, or money for presents would be much appreciated.

Second-hand clothes are collected and given to the church communities at the end of each month. The handing over is done during the church service, as well as that of the money for the churches, so that the churchgoers are aware of the donations and can participate actively in distributing them. The churches would be very interested in and open for the establishment of church partnerships with Christian church communities abroad.

Contacts can easily be established through us.

Once the sports and community centre has been established, it would be nice to develop partnerships with teams in other countries, other football, basketball, netball teams and the likes. Until then, any donation of sports gear (footballs, basketball, netballs, shoes or jerseys) that brings them closer to the opening of a sports club would be much appreciated.

Transport is sometimes a problem since the airlines are now very strictly observing their weight limitations and extra luggage needs to be paid for.

The people involved in the Mayana Mpora Foundation always know best where money is needed and what it should be spent for in the region, so any financial contribution that you would like to make towards the Mayana Mpora Foundation goes straight into one of their projects.

“Buy an elephant and support an orphan”

When you are in the area, make sure to pass by N’Kwazi Lodge where little wooden elephants are sold that make excellent souvenirs.

They are sold at 30 N$ each, 10 N$ of which go to an orphanage in the region.
