The Green Dream

The Green Dream is Wynand’s brainchild, and dear to his heart. It is currently in its finalising planning stages, and he is busy negociating with suppliers from all over the place.

All the villages are located at least 3-4 and as many as 10 kilometres from the Okavango River, and it is the women’s job to carry containers with fresh water home every day, or that of the smaller children. One of these containers weighs roughly 20 kg.

The water quality of existing wells in the villages is very poor since they serve as “water hole” for free-roaming cattle at the same time.

A first improvement is that children are now bringing buckets from home into the school and have these filled with clean water for their homes.

An ideal situation would be that of clean wells, inaccessible for animals, in a central location in the villages which is what the Green Dream is all about.

Another idea is to establish a little clinic on the Mayana premises. The hospital in Rundu is 20km away, which is too far for most of our people who don’t have a car or money for a taxi.

A doctor in Rundu is willing to treat people for free once a week. We would like to take on this offer and to develop it further. In July 2008 a German Pediatrician will come together with her assistant to treat people for free in her summer holidays.
